Day 2. Subject: [firstname], do you know what you want? Hey [firstname], Do you know what you want – from your social media that is? The reason I ask is: The type of social media you choose, and the way you approach it, is going to be highly dependent on exactly what result you want to get. Are you looking to build your brand? Are you looking to make direct sales? Are you trying to gain supporters for a cause? Do you want to generate favourable PR? Or something else altogether? So before you sign-up to any social media site, you should decide EXACTLY what you want to achieve from your social media, and what sort of impression you want to give. This is also going to be a deciding factor on what social media sites you concentrate your efforts on, too. For example: If you want to generate good PR for your internet start-up with a view to floating it on the stock market in due course, then establishing a strong presence on Linkedin.com and making regular tweets about your progress on Twitter, would be a good strategy. Linkedin is a social networking site aimed at businesses and business people and is great for finding potential business partners, JV partners, financial backers and suchlike. Meanwhile, Twitter is read by a variety of people and is perfect for getting the word out to a wide audience. Or... If you run a restaurant and want to sell more 'covers', having a regularly updated Facebook page, and some appetizing photos on Pinterest and Instagram , is more likely to get the word out to your potential diners. Your task for today, then, is to decide EXACTLY what you want from you social media. That will help guide your decision as to what sites to concentrate on. More tomorrow! [Your Name] PS.
