Day 5 Subject: [firstname], don't be out of sight and out of mind! Hey [firstname], I'm sure you've heard the old expression “out of sight, out of mind.” It simply means that people tend to forget about you if they don't see or hear from you very often. It's as true on social media as it is in real life. The trouble is... Most people fall into this classic trap. They open a bunch of social media accounts and start posting. Oftentimes they'll post every day – which is great. After a while, though, the novelty wears off, and they begin to post less and less. Much of the stuff they post is just “in-your-face” advertising for their product or service anyway. This doesn't exactly encourage people to follow them. Eventually they get disheartened and bored with the whole idea. They give up and their accounts become “dead”. Followers assume they've gone out of business. Make sure this doesn't happen to you. In the early days, don't post too often – just once or twice a week should be sufficient. Concentrate on getting followers. Like I said in yesterday's e-mail, when people start following you, many of them will scroll back and read your early posts or tweets anyway. Concentrate on giving them something worthwhile to read or see. If you post at regular intervals, they'll know when to expect something new from you. The key phrase here is “regular intervals”. If you post erratically, or leave it too long, people will either stop reading your posts, or stop following you completely. Out of sight, out of mind! As time goes by, you'll get better (and faster) at posting and will be inclined to post more frequently. Talk soon, [Your Name] PS. There's still time to get my guide to social media.
